$5 obv$5 rev(Grand Cayman – Friday, 31 May 2013) – Just in time for the 60th anniversary of the Coronation of Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 2 June, the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) has unveiled a second Diamond Jubilee Coin in the Royal Mint’s Commonwealth 24 Coin Collection.

The special commemorative collection is in honour of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Last June, Queen Elizabeth II celebrated 60 years since she ascended the throne. The Diamond Jubilee festivities took place in London for four days, but were celebrated all throughout the Commonwealth.

CIMA Jub coinsThe Diamond Jubilee weekend saw millions of well-wishers pouring into London and the focus was on Buckingham Palace, where the “Party at the Palace” took place on the evening of 2 June. The Queen lit the National Beacon at the Victoria Memorial, the last in a chain stretching around the Commonwealth and the signal for a spectacular fireworks display from the Palace.

With a face value of $5, the limited edition, silver coin design illustrates a hallmark of the Queen’s 60-year reign that is of personal significance to the Sovereign. A portrait of HRM Queen Elizabeth II, the denomination (Five Dollars) and the words “Cayman Islands” is on the obverse side. The reverse of “The Queen’s Golden Jubilee” coin features the image of the Jubilee Beacon as well as the phrase “A Celebration that Binds Us Together as a Nation” – an excerpt from the Queen’s Golden Jubilee speech in 2002.

An initial amount of 50 coins will be available for local sales at a sale price of CI$89.65. Each coin comes with a special Jubilee information card from the Royal Mint.
