CKIA ATC trainees head to Trinidad
Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (15 September 2015) Charles Kirkconnell International Airport’s (CKIA) Air Traffic Control trainees Eric Bodden and Carley Lazzari are off to Trinidad and Tobago for four months of intensive training at the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Training Centre.
Prior to their departure on Friday, 11 September, Cayman Islands Airports Authority’s CEO Albert Anderson, Chief Operations Officer Dale Davis, Chief Human Resources Officer Mario Ebanks and Acting Air Traffic Control Manager Craig Smith paid them a visit to wish them success in completing the overseas course.
Commenting on the specialized training, Mr. Anderson said, “Redeveloping the terminal building is just one part of our strategic plan to improve services at Owen Roberts International Airport. We also want to develop talent and invest in our employees to ensure that staff is able to provide our passengers with world class service in a safe and secure environment.”
The two young Caymanians will be trained in Air Traffic Control with a main focus on Aerodrome Control. Once they have successfully completed the course, they will return to Grand Cayman where they will undergo On-the-job-training with a qualified Air Traffic Control Instructor assessing them against the unit’s approved qualification training programme. Their successful validation will significantly complement the CKIA ATC manning levels which will allow for better coverage and more flexibility.
