Cayman Finance applauds Cayman’s top ranking in HSBC Expat Survey
The Cayman Islands recently took a clean sweep in the top spots in the largest independent survey of its kind when it comes to the best location for expatriates to live. HSBC’s fifth annual Expat Explorer Survey 2012, which talked to over 5,000 expats based in just less than 100 countries, ranked the Cayman Islands number one for the overall experience, overall setting up and overall quality of life. Cayman came third in the Global Comparison League Table, beaten only by Singapore which took the top spot, with Thailand in second place.
“The HSBC Expat Explorer Survey 2012 really only confirms what we in the Cayman Islands already know: that the Cayman Islands is indeed an excellent location in which to live and work,” said Richard Coles, Chairman of Cayman Finance. “We are delighted that this fact has been officially recognised by this in-depth study. The study took into account a broad spectrum of all aspects of expatriate life, including the ease with which expats can set up in their new country, how well they integrate with the local community and their overall quality of life.
Mr Coles said that the fact that the Cayman Islands came first in the overall setting up category shows that the location is perceived as a welcoming and easy place in which to work.
“The Cayman Islands should be proud of the fact that we came first out of 30 countries when it comes to the ease at which expatriates can establish themselves in their adopted country, beating Singapore in second place and Australia in third. This is an impressive result considering the high importance both Singapore and Australia place on attracting talent,” he commented.
Mr Coles was equally impressed by Cayman’s top ranking in the overall quality of life category, beating Thailand in second place and Spain which came in third.
Within the survey, an Expat Economics league table, which focuses on how the economic situation differs for expats from country to country, found Cayman in fifth place overall, taking second place within this sector when it comes to luxuries available The Expat Explorer survey is commissioned by HSBC Expat, part of HSBC Bank International Limited, and conducted by third party research company YouGov. 5,339 expats were questioned through an online survey which ran from 11th May to the 3rd July 2012, with expats from 97 countries worldwide taking part.
