Cloud migration patterns signify climate ghange
Scientists using satellite images have established some of the most concrete changes caused by a warming climate in reduced cloudiness in Earth’s tempterate mid-latitude regions while the poleward zones have had a massive expansion according to The Daily Mail. Scientists warn this alteration in character could be a sign of forthcoming woes for climate change.
The tops of clouds also rose almost everywhere across the planet according to the scientific data used in the study beginning from the 1980s until the 2000s.
“These cloud changes enhance absorption of solar radiation by the Earth and reduce emission of thermal radiation to space,” said Professor Joel Norris. from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California San Diego, which assisted in the study. “This exacerbates global warming caused by increasing greenhouse gas concentration.”
Previously how clouds were affected by and helped contribute to global warming was an unknown since satellites that monitor weather patterns on earth aren’t stable enough for tracking cloud changes over decades long periods of time. However the team was able to amend the data by removing figures such as satellite orbit, instrument calibration, and degradation of sensors to get more accurate information to use in the study.
The information concluded that the behavior of the clouds was consistent with human-derivative greenhouse gas concentrations as well as noting the influence of massive volcanic eruptions having the ability to cool the planet for a few years at a time due to the sunlight-reflecting ash and dust.
