CNCF and Appleby set to launch FOUNDATION Arts & Culture Journal at Cayfest

unnamedThe 4th Arts & Culture Journal of the Cayman Islands will be accessible to all schools and public libraries, thanks to Appleby’s support.

GEORGE TOWN, JANUARY 19th, 2016 – Thanks to the generous support of Appleby, the Arts & Culture Journal of the Cayman Islands, FOUNDATION, will see the launch of its 4th volume at the 2016 National Festival of the Arts, Cayfest. First published by the Cayman National Cultural Foundation in September 2001, FOUNDATION features articles, interviews and photographs on topics relating to local arts, culture and traditions.

Past issues have featured invaluable contributions from leading artists and cultural animators including, ‘Aunt’ Julia Hydes, Leonard Dilbert, Professor Hon. Rex Nettleford, OM, Dave Martins, J. A Roy Bodden, Nancy Barnard, Quincy Brown, Horacio Esteban, Brian Kieran, Frank E. Flowers, Jr., Rita Estevanovich, Dr. Philip Pedley and Luelan Bodden among others. This latest edition (February 2016) focuses entirely on the Sister Islands of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, with the feature being a memoir by Mr. Burnard Tibbetts, of “How People Lived On Cayman Brac.”

The publication of FOUNDATION Journal came to a halt in 2006, for lack of funding support. Appleby’s partnering generosity allows CNCF to give the journal a rebirth of sorts, with the bonus of making at least 200 copies available, free of cost, to schools and libraries across the Cayman Islands.
Bryan Hunter, Managing Partner, Appleby (Cayman) said, “Education – particularly relating to the history and culture of the Cayman Islands – is especially important to Appleby and we are delighted to reinstate the Foundations journal, which will be an essential reference tool available for use in social studies and history classes in all local primary, secondary and tertiary schools.”

“Non-profit cultural organisations like CNCF cannot survive to do the necessary work of bringing the arts and culture to the populace, without the support of our corporate entities. We are grateful, in this instance for the support of Appleby and we thank them most sincerely, for their enthusiasm and timely support of this important publication, as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Harquail Theatre,” says Henry Muttoo, CNCF Artistic Director.

FOUNDATION Journals are available for $12 at the CNCF Shop at the offices behind the Harquail Theatre and the public may also browse the online Shop at artscayman.org/shop. Orders are currently being taken for the 4th edition, which will be available beginning February 26th, 2016. Proceeds go directly to CNCF cultural development programmes.
