CNCF Mourns the Loss of Mr. Morgan DaCosta

The Cayman National Cultural Foundation (CNCF) is deeply saddened by the loss of Morgan DaCosta, a devoted advocate for the arts and a cherished member of our community.

Mr. DaCosta, who passed away at the age of 57, left an indelible mark on the arts in the Cayman Islands through his work with CNCF and his notable performances in Rundown.

Morgan’s passion for entertaining began at a young age, from performing for family to acting in school plays at St. Ignatius Catholic School, and later in high school. In 1995, he joined the cast of the popular play Rundown, remaining actively involved until 2008. He joined the CNCF Board in 1997, contributing significantly to various roles, including board member, treasurer, Deputy Chairman, and Chairman of the Grants and Awards Committee.

Morgan’s love for theatre and the performing arts, both on stage and behind the scenes, defined his dedication to Caymanian culture. For over two decades, he was a proactive member of the CNCF Board, contributing his time to volunteering at events, front of house support, official functions, and cultural exchange programs—all while prioritizing the growth and preservation of the community’s arts and heritage.

CNCF Chairperson Lorna Reid shared her condolences: “Morgan DaCosta, Cert. Hon., was a true Caymanian, devoted to his country, culture, heritage, and history. He was a talented actor, playwright, cultural ambassador, and Deputy Chairman of the CNCF board. As an administrative counselor, prominent businessman, and cultural advocate, he gave his all to make Caymanian culture enjoyable, memorable, educational, and strong.

Morgan was a gifted and valued actor and colleague who could always be counted on to bring the stage alive with the many characters he portrayed. His tireless commitment to Caymanian culture since the mid-1990s ensures that future generations will benefit from his efforts. Morgan made our culture vibrant and unforgettable. Walk in peace, Morgan.”

CNCF CEO Natalie Urquhart echoed these sentiments: “Morgan was a true champion of culture and heritage, a respected business leader, community advocate, and above all, a family man. His passion for culture—particularly theatre and the performing arts—was infectious, whether on stage, behind the scenes, in operations and finance, out in the community campaigning for support, or sharing CNCF’s work internationally.

He played an instrumental role in shaping CNCF and preserving Caymanian culture for years to come. Morgan’s passing is a great loss to our community. His passion, dedication, and contributions will never be forgotten, leaving behind a lasting legacy through his family and cultural work.”

George Jones, CNCF’s Front of House Supervisor, who worked closely with Morgan, added: “Morgan was an asset to CNCF as an actor and board member during his time of service.”

Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.

Morgan’s passion and dedication to the arts will always be remembered.
