Miami (Friday, October 23, 2015) – The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), the Confederacion Sudamericana de Futbol (CONMEBOL), and the United States Soccer Federation (U.S. Soccer) today announced their agreement to proceed with plans to stage the Copa America Centenario in the United States during the summer of 2016. The agreement was reached as a result of extensive work between the Confederations, U.S. Soccer, and the tournament’s broadcast partners to implement a strengthened and transparent governance structure for managing and executing the historic football event.

In a joint statement, CONCACAF and CONMEBOL said: “We are extremely happy for our fans, our teams and our partners, that we were able to find a way to host the Copa America Centenario celebration in the United States under an entirely new structure for managing the tournament’s operations and finances. The improved governance structure will bring greater accountability and transparency to the event so it can serve its two intended purposes – to celebrate the 100 years of history of Copa America, and provide a once in a lifetime spectacle for fans in the CONCACAF and CONMEBOL regions.”

All parties involved in Copa America Centenario have agreed to form a new Executive Committee, made up of two representatives from CONMEBOL, two representatives from CONCACAF, and one representative from U.S. Soccer, to manage the tournament’s day-to-day operations and finances. This committee will facilitate greater financial transparency between the Confederations and U.S. Soccer, which is the local organizing committee, regarding funds collected, including ticketing, broadcasting and sponsorships.

As part of the tournament’s new governance structure, CONCACAF and CONMEBOL recently announced that the Confederations had reclaimed their respective broadcast and sponsorship rights for this event by ending their relationships with Datisa, S.A. The Confederations will issue in the upcoming days a joint Request for Proposals (RFP) publicly to ensure transparency and accountability in the selection of new commercial partners to market these rights.

CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, and U.S. Soccer will immediately begin securing venues for the tournament and planning the operational aspects of the event.
