CONCACAF: GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands – August 10, 2014 – The host Cayman Islands and Honduras clinched quarterfinal places at the inaugural CONCACAF Under-15 Girls’ Championship with wins on Friday.

GROUP A

Cayman Islands 4, Bahamas 1

At the Truman Bodden Sports Complex, captain Lauren Scott struck for a pair of goals and the Cayman Islands defeated the Bahamas, 4-1, to seal a quarterfinal place in the CONCACAF Under-15 Girls’ Championship.

The host got off to a fast start with Chelsea Green tucking home in the 2nd minute after a goal-mouth scramble. Scott (5’) doubled the advantage three minutes later and 11-year old Sabrina Suberan (17’) made sure Cayman took a 3-0 lead into the break.

In the second half, Scott (42’) completed her brace seven minutes after the restart, scoring Cayman’s ninth goal in just two matches.

Laurann Brown (70’) grabbed a consolation goal for the Bahamians in the final minute of play.

British Virgin Islands 1, Curacao 2,

At Ed Bush Stadium, Curacao rallied to post a 2-1 win over the British Virgin Islands.

Katie Lowery (41’) gave BVI the lead six minutes into the second half.

Curacao replied through Lindsay Hart (46’, 50’), who struck on a free kick and converted a penalty within four minutes of each other.

GROUP B

Barbados 0, Honduras 3

Honduras used a strong second half to defeat Barbados 3-0 at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.

Annelise Canahuati (25’), Sharon Moreira (60’), Lisbeth Cruz (68’) scored one goal each to give the Central Americans a second straight win and a spot in the final eight with a game to spare.

Bermuda 1, Trinidad and Tobago 1

In an evenly contested match, at Ed Bush Stadium, Trinidad & Tobago and Bermuda played to a spirited 1-1 draw.

Raenah Campbell (11’) gave the Trinidadians an early 1-0 lead, but Bermuda’s Nia Christopher (36’) leveled just a minute into the second half.

CGU15: Day Four Recap

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands – Canada, Costa Rica, Haiti and Jamaica advanced to the quarterfinals of the inaugural CONCACAF Girls U-15 Championship after posting wins on Saturday.

Here’s a recap of the evening’s action in the Cayman Islands:

GROUP C

Anguilla 0, Jamaica 9

At the T.E McField Sports Complex, forward Jody Brown scored four goals and Jamaica registered a 9-0 victory over Anguilla.

Brown (12’, 17’, 19’, 30’) inflicted all of her damage within the opening 30 minutes, after Chavelle Henry (11’) netted in a second consecutive game to open the scoring.

Anguilla found the Jamaicans’ sheer pace of play to be challenging and conceded an own-goal in the 27th minute, putting it behind 6-0 at the half.

Following the break, Jamaica added three more goals, as Shanhaine Nelson (42’), Jamila Ashley (61’) and Sydoney Clarke (70’) got their names on the scoresheet to complete the largest margin of victory in the tournament thus far.

Belize 0, Costa Rica 7

A hat-trick by Irela Rodriquez highlighted Costa Rica’s 7-0 victory over Belize. Rodriquez (19’ 36’, 38’) hit the mark once in the first half and twice in the second, as the Central Americans punched their ticket to the quarterfinals.

Merelyn Alvarado scored a double (26’, 66’), while Meredith Calderon (21’) and Maria Sanabria (70’) tallied once each to complete the victory.

GROUP D

Puerto Rico 0, Haiti 1

Haiti left it late to edge defiant Puerto Rico in Group D play at the Cayman Brac Sports Field.

Nelourdes Nicolas (70’+3) scored the game-winner deep into second-half stoppage time to guarantee her side a quarterfinal berth.

Cuba 0, Canada 6

Canada produced another fine display of attacking football and earned a quarterfinal place, defeating Cuba 6-0 at the Cayman Brac Sports Field.

Camila Gomez (37’, 52’) paced the Canadians, who took an early lead through Anyssa Ibrahim (8’).

Teni Akindoju (23’), Sarah Stratigakis (24’) and Nahidi Baalbaki (43’) also tallied in the win, giving the Canadians 11 goals in two games.
