MIAMI, Florida – With the start of the 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf League quarterfinals on the horizon next week, the eight remaining clubs in the competition returned to action over the weekend following the FIFA international break.

Waterhouse of Jamaica, who will take on Honduran FC Motagua, appeared to not have missed a beat as they downed Harbour View FC 7-0 in a comprehensive performance.

The Monstruo Morado’s quarterfinal opponent, Club Atletico Independiente of Panama, showed plenty of character in picking up a 1-1 draw on the road at Costa del Este thanks to a second half equalizer from Angel Sanchez.

San Carlos of Costa Rica continue building confidence ahead of their quarterfinal date with El Salvador’s Alianza as veteran striker Alvaro Saborio scored the lone goal in a 1-0 triumph against Herediano.

As for Alianza, FW Raul Penaranda, currently tied as the second-leading scorer in the 2019 SCL (2 goals), bagged a brace in a 2-0 win last Thursday versus Aguila, followed by a solid 1-1 draw at Independiente on Sunday.

2017 SCL champion Olimpia of Honduras earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw with rivals Real Espana thanks to a Jerry Bengtson penalty conversion in the second half, and that should help steel the Albos for next week’s quarterfinal against Guatemala side Comunicaciones, who were left frustrated by a 3-1 loss to Guastatoya.
