Conference Italy-Latin America and Caribbean starts in Rome
For the FM Angelino Alfano, these conferences are the main moment of the meeting and dialogue of Italy with the Latin American and Caribbean nations to which he said ‘we are bound by deep sentiments of friendship and fraternity founded on special cultural, political and economic links’.
Alfano inaugurated the event together with his peer of Colombia, María Ángela Holguín; the Italian minister of Economic Development, Carlo Calenda; former Dominican president and head of the Foumndation European Union-Latin America and Caribbean, Leonel Fernandez and the Secretary General of IILA, Donato Di Santo.
After the traditional photo opportunity, the agenda schedules the first work session, moderated by Italian deputy Foreign Minister, Mario Giro. This afternoon will follow a plenary on power grids.
The program also includes a colloquium on the fight against corruption, moderated by Rosario Aitala, Counselor for Foreign and Judicial Affairs of the Senate President, with speeches by the National Antimob and Antiterrorism Ombudsman, Federico Cafiero de Raho and other speakers. Conclusions will take place after that with speeches by the honorary presidernt of the Interparliamentary Union, Pier Ferdinando Casini; vicepresident of the Chamber of Deputies, Marina Sereni, the IILA Socio-Economic Secretary, José Luis Rhi-Sausi, and deputy FM, Mario Giro.
The origin of these meetings organized by the Italian Foreign Ministry in collaboration with IILA dates back to 2003 when these meetings started with economic and business objectives until 2007 when they added their political dimension.
