International women’s day: PAHO Director calls for investment in women’s leadership to transform the health sector
Even though women make up 70% of health and care sector workers worldwide, barely 25% occupy leadership positions. At an event to mark International Women’s Day, the Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Dr. Jarbas Barbosa, called for greater support to women’s leadership while strengthening the health workforce, especially in the wake of negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Wave of new commitments marks historic step towards the elimination of cervical cancer
Governments, donors, multilateral institutions, and partners have announced major new policy, programmatic and financial commitments, including nearly US$ 600 million in new funding, to eliminate cervical cancer. One in eight people are now living with obesity
A new study shows that worldwide, obesity among adults has more than doubled since 1990, and has quadrupled among children and adolescents (5 to 19 years of age). The data also show that 43% of adults were overweight in 2022.
