Despite notable progress, road safety remains urgent global issue
The latest WHO global status report on road safety 2023 shows that while the annual number of road traffic deaths fell slightly to 1.19 million per year, road traffic crashes remain the leading killer of children and youth aged 5-29 years.

Urgent action needed to protect children and prevent uptake of e-cigarettes
The WHO Director General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has called for urgent action to control e-cigarettes to protect children, as well as non-smokers. E-cigarettes are not shown to be effective for quitting tobacco use at the population level. Instead, alarming evidence has emerged on adverse population health effects.
