SEVEN MILE BEACH, Grand Cayman — Cal Poly beach volleyball players Ella Connor and Piper Ferch represented Cal Poly and the United States strong over the weekend in the Cayman Islands, winning the first ever NORCECA U23 Beach Volleyball Tour.
Competing against some of the best players in the world under the age of 23, Connor and Ferch, both sophomores for the Mustangs this year, won two matches to win the title.
After receiving a bye to move into the semifinals, the duo beat Americans Alexis Durish and Hailey Hamlett, who play collegiately for Florida State and TCU, in straight sets (21-17, 21-13) to advance to the finals.
In the finals, they came back after dropping the first set to win the next two and beat Canadians Kaylee Glagau and Ruby Sorra in three sets (18-21, 21-11, 22-20).
