Contraband found in prison cells

Prison Contraband August 20 2013Officials at Her Majesty’s Prison Northward found contraband in the facility’s Bravo Wing over the weekend (Sunday, August 18, 2013), during a search of inmates’ cells.

Among the prohibited items were:

1.         Two bottles of what appears to be white rum (1 litre each).

2.         Five packs of Rizla(s)

3.         Two packs of double platinum tobacco cigar wraps

4.         Three parcels of vegetable matter resembling ganja, (approximate weight with wrapping 2 lbs. and 10 oz.)

5.         A Blackberry Curve mobile phone was also recovered.

Items 1-4 were found together in a cell and item 5 was found on its own in another cell.

Director of Prisons Neil Lavis explains that the search of the cells took place after a prison officer saw an inmate run back to a cell block after picking up a package that had been thrown over the fence.

“We will continue to take prompt action against those whom we suspect of having contraband. This was a piece of good work from the officer involved,” Mr Lavis remarks.
