COP29: The first-ever Digitalisation Day
From Island Innovation
Day 6 and 7 at COP29 |
Today marks the first Digitalisation Day at COP29, a groundbreaking moment in the conference’s history dedicated to exploring the transformative potential of digital technologies in addressing climate change. Digitalisation Day builds on COP29’s broader goals of integrating cross-sectoral strategies to address climate change. The connections between urbanisation, green infrastructure, and sustainable tourism will be highlighted today, demonstrating how digital solutions can enhance resilience across industries. For SIDS, the focus is on improving access to digital tools for better climate data, renewable energy systems, and disaster preparedness. These efforts align with the needs of island nations to adapt swiftly and effectively to climate impacts, making them key beneficiaries of the Green Digital Action Declaration. |

Snapshot of Loss and Damage in SIDS under the Climate Promise
As discussions on climate-related loss and damage evolve, due in large part to the leadership of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and frontline communities, increasing emphasis is being placed on the needs of countries and communities to respond to loss and damage. Loss and damage has been identified as an emerging area of interest in SIDS’ national climate plans.
This report provides an analysis and overview of loss and damage concerns in the 32 SIDS supported by UNDP’s Climate Promise initiative.
