CPL: Darren Sammy threatened with Mankading
CARIBBEAN cricket was nearly struck by another Mankading controversy on Friday, with Darren Sammy given a stern warning to stay in his crease by Alzarri Joseph.
Sammy had a stadium officially named after him on Friday in Saint Lucia (AEST), but Joseph was not in the mood to help him celebrate.
Bowling the final over of Saint Lucia Zouks’ innings, the 19-year-old Saint Kitts and Nevis quick pulled out of his delivery stride, before eyeing off the World Twenty20-winning captain for leaving his crease.

Joseph was a part of the West Indies’ Under-19s side that caused a stir at February’s World Cup when Keemo Paul ran Zimbabwe’s Richard Ngarava out to secure the team a spot in the quarter-finals.
With Zimbabwe needing two runs to win with one wicket in hand, Paul ran in to bowl but pulled out before his delivery stride, whipping off the bails with Ngarava out of his crease.
It was a move that left a bad taste in the mouths of many, but has since been given the tick of approval by the Marylebone Cricket Club’s World Cricket Committee.
Joseph eventually got Sammy out, but it was not enough to spoil the Zouks skipper’s day, with Sammy scoring a 35-ball 59 in a 35-run win.
