CRFM & UN DOALOS Webinar on UN Fish Stocks Agreement | 28 October 2024
The Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) and the Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea, United Nations Office of Legal Affairs (UN DOALOS) will host a joint webinar on Monday, 28 October 2024, to highlight the potential contribution of the UN Fish Stocks Agreement (UNFSA) to the sustainable management and development of the fisheries of the Caribbean. In this webinar, we will present a brief overview of the United Nations Fish Stocks Agreement, including its history, main provisions and relevance to sustainable fisheries management in the Caribbean region. In particular, the webinar will profile the Agreement’s role as a basis for the work of regional fisheries management organizations and arrangements (RFMO/As) and other regional fishery bodies, and provide examples of implementation at the national level by States Parties to the Agreement in the region. The webinar will also provide information on the capacity-building opportunities under the Project of Assistance to Strengthen Participation in and Implementation of the United Nations Fish Stocks Agreement (UNFSA-POA) as well as on some of the tools available to further understanding of the Agreement, including a recently finalized implementation guide to the Agreement. The webinar can also address the relevance of the United Nations Fish Stocks Agreement to specific subjects of current interest.
