Criteria for discretionary waivers not clear
Mr. Miller wonders why discretionary waivers are applied to selected people and not across the board.
In an interview he gave to CNS he said, “It’s hard to have the money to pay your bills when you are giving it away. How can government justify giving money away to profit making commercial entities unless you are giving it to all?”
Most of the waivers given seem to be for charities, churches or government/quasi government projects like Pirates Week and the Cayman Academy.
However, the largest amounts were to commercial establishments like Fosters Food Fair, Westin Casuarina Resort and Spa, and Flowers Group who between them received CI$1.3M in waivers of the total $1.5M.
