Tourism Ministry Chief Officer, Mr. Stran Bodden and local law firm Appleby’s Partner, Mr. Norman Klein signed a contract for the law firm to provide legal oversight of government’s ongoing George Town cruise dock project.

Deputy Premier and Tourism Minister, Hon. Moses Kirkconnell, JP presided over the contract signing at the Ministry’s conference room in GAB recently.

“I am delighted that we are moving forward strictly in accordance with the Public Management and Finance Law and are setting up the proper oversight to meet all Framework for Fiscal Responsibility requirements,” Deputy Premier Kirkconnell said at the signing. “This signals the Cayman Islands Government’s emphasis on good governance,” he added.

At the start of the cruise berthing project, government through the Ministry engaged accountancy firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers to provide oversight for all financial matters starting with the Outline Business Case, stated Chief Officer Bodden.

He explained that according to Cayman’s legislated procurement process, all projects over $10,000,000 and all public-private sector partnerships have to engage industry standard oversight to ensure that projects are run efficiently and follow International Best practice.

The next step in the ongoing process is the seeking of tenders to conduct an Environmental Impact Assessment of cruise berthing in George Town harbour.
