CTEX’s ‘CU-1’ the first of 4 high-end Tier-IV designed datacenters is coming out of the ground at record speed.

Local and international companies are in a race to build the most advanced datacenter in the Caribbean and Latin America in record time. The project team consists of Dus Ron N.V. as the principal general contractor together with Lee Technologies and Civil Engineering Caribbean who are jointly overseeing execution. Schneider Electric is delivering all mechanical and electrical infrastructure. IT Installation N.V. will be installing the technical infrastructure, and Energy & Automation will be overseeing the installation of all mechanical and electrical infrastructure. The implementation of the computing infrastructure is in the hands of OpenLink a regional provider who is certified to implement all computing infrastructure. All major networking infrastructure is the in the hands of CISCO Systems.

The facility is being built on the island of Curacao, nestled deep in the southern Caribbean outside of the traditional hurricane belt and safely in a politically neutral destination. The location for the datacenters is in an area 60 meters above sea-level chiseled in heavy rock formation. The team is about to wrap up the foundation of the project, which is one of the most complex aspects of a datacenter. In parallel, heavy trench work has commenced on the north side of Curacao which will bring various new subsea fiber systems to the CTEX datacenter. In the next few months the company is focused on installing the building’s steel infrastructure as well as exterior walls which are provided by Greenblock Inc. Full operation is planned for the second quarter of 2013,

The company’s datacenters will be the first Tier-IV facilities in the region capable of withstanding type V hurricane winds and withstanding seismic level III earth quakes.
