Cuban Numbers Down & Up
Deputy Chief of Immigration (Enforcement) Gary Wong states that his officers, in cooperation with other agencies, continue to meet the needs of the latest group of 25 Cuban migrants.
Several of the latest migrants have requested asylum. Security has been enhanced at the Immigration Detention Centre as they await processing.
The migrant issue has received continuing attention this year, even as there was a brief respite in numbers arriving on our shores.
The group of 25 arrived on Grand Cayman (on Thursday, 8 November), the day after Department of Immigration officers and a Cayman Airways Security Team had repatriated the last five remaining migrants. They then attempted to continue on to Swan Island that same day.
The next day the passing Carnival Legend* cruise ship picked them up due to mechanical problems they were having with their vessel and returned them to Grand Cayman.

that the cruise ship that picked up the Cuban migrants was the Carnival LIBERTY and NOT the Legend
