Cuba’s Varadero resort will have 3,000 hotel rooms by 2020
HAVANA, Cuba (ACN) — Varadero, Cuba’s main tourist destination for sun and beach, will have 3,000 rooms by 2020, thus continuing the trend in new construction that is carried out there, said Ivis Fernandez, a tourism ministry (MINTUR) official in Matanzas province.
The new International hotel, located on one of Varadero’s best beach strips, will add 946 rooms by the end of 2018 and the two hotels that are currently being built on the so-called Oasis plot, at the entrance to the Hicacos Peninsula, should be ready next year.
Fernandez reaffirmed that the construction schedule is proceeding as planned, and they are working on other buildings in the town of Santa Marta, as well as warehouses and transport bases to support the infrastructure of the sector.
She highlighted the completion of the Varadero Factoria, a craft beer factory, a new attraction for the high season that will open on November 15, and the restoration of the Casa del Ron, located in the downtown area, which combines the history of sugar cane with the tasting of typical Cuban rum.
They are also working on the restoration of the Xanadu Mansion, a national monument once owned by American billionaire Alfred Irenee du Pont, the first stage of which is already concluded and which is planned to continue in 2019.
For this winter season, MINTUR is also making improvements in hundreds of rooms in hotel facilities in Matanzas province, which will offer visitors a better service and consolidate the tourist destination as the preferred one for those visiting the Caribbean island.
