CUC Primary Football League Playoffs set for this weekend
With the playoffs scheduled to begin on this Saturday, November 24, the majority of schools participating in the 2018 CUC Primary Football League (PFL) and CUC Girls’ Primary Football League (GPFL) wrapped-up regular season play this past Saturday as positions in the Champions Cups and Consolation Cups were up for grabs.
In Group B, Truth For Youth secured a fourth place finish and a spot in the Under 9 Champions Cup playoffs with a 3-1 victory over Sir John A. Cumber Primary at the West Bay Town Hall Field. Jamani Frater scored in the 5th and 15th minutes before Darren Cranston sealed the win for the ‘sky blues’ in the 24th minute.
Sir John A. Cumber fought their way back into the game in the 28th minute as Xavi Tibbetts blasted a left footed rocket past the Truth For Youth keeper, but it was too little too late.
In other Group B games, it was NorthEast Schools 0 vs. Cayman International School 9Blue 4 (Under 9 – respect rule); NorthEast Schools 0 vs. Cayman International School 11Blue 4 (Under 11 – respect rule); Bodden Town Primary 0 vs. Cayman Prep 9A 1 (Under 9); Bodden Town Primary 0 vs. Cayman Prep 3 (Under 11); Red Bay Primary 4 vs. Triple C 0 (Under 9); Red Bay Primary 2 vs. Triple C 1 (Under 11); and Prospect Primary 3 vs. Cayman Brac 0 (Under 11 – forfeit as Cayman Brac were unable to travel).
In Group A play, Savannah Primary and George Town Primary exchanged victories as George Town Primary’s Under 9 warriors scored in injury time to earn a 2-1 win and in the Under 11 match-up, Savannah Primary came from behind to grab a 2-1 win.
In the Under 9 game, Savannah Primary’s Daniel Joven scored from the penalty spot before Ra’jon Boothe tied it up for George Town Primary. With the minutes ticking away, George Town’s James Whittaker popped up to score with almost the last kick of the game to secure the three points.
In the Under 11 encounter, George Town’s Fred Boothe scored in the 10th minute before Kai Bodden equalised in the 13th minute for Savannah Primary. Savannah’s George Brooks scored the winner from a free kick in the 21st minute.
In the CUC GPFL, the young ladies from Sir John A. Cumber secured all three points in a 3-0 win over South Sound Schools. Hannah Bryan opened the scoring in the 21st minute before Kaysia Lee sealed the win with two fine finishes in the 30th and 40th minutes.
In other CUC GPFL games, it was Bodden Town Primary 0 vs. St. Ignatius Catholic 2; George Town Primary 0 vs. Savannah Primary 3; and Cayman International School 0 vs. Cayman Prep 2.
A number of postponed games will be replayed this week prior to the start of the CUC PFL Champions Cup and Consolation Cup playoffs, which are scheduled to begin this Saturday, November 24 at 9:00 a.m. at the Annex Field.
The CUC GPFL regular season wraps-up this Saturday, November 24 with three games at the Annex Field. The GPFL Champions Cup and Consolation Cup playoffs kick-off on Saturday, December 1, also at the Annex Field.
