Culture Jam presents a Cayman Islands’ classic
From Cayman National Cultural Foundation.
For the month of April, ‘Culture Jam’ offers the public a chance to enjoy Caymanian theatre. This coming Thursday, 21 April, 2016, the public is welcomed to join in the reading of “Playground”.
Written by Dr. Frank S. McField, the drama centers around a Caymanian boy who is sent from his seafaring culture to be educated abroad and has to learn how to navigate the new world he is in. The story, set in the 1960s, touches on family, innocence and rites of passage.
The production was first staged in 1994 by the Cayman National Cultural Foundation, starring Consuelo Ebanks, Leroy Holness, Harwell McCoy, Herbie Martin and Frankie Flowers among others.
Participants are invited to be readers, or simply listen to the readings. Refreshments will be on sale, and admission is free. The evening kick starts at 6.30 p.m. at the Harquail Studio Theatre.
Every 3rd Thursday of the month, until August 2016, the Cultural Foundation invites the public to enjoy a play or poetry reading, movie night or other activity celebrating the Harquail Theatre’s 30th anniversary.
