Customs statement on firearms incident at airport

HM Customs is presently investigating the case of a 23 year-old female passenger who, on 20 May 2013, was arrested by Customs Officers on arrival at the Owen Roberts International Airport from Miami for the importation and possession of an unlicensed firearm and accessories.

The female passenger had been selected for her baggage to be x-rayed. During the x-ray of her baggage an object that appeared to be a firearm part was detected.

A physical search of her bag revealed various firearm parts, which when assembled revealed a completed .45 caliber hand gun. The firearm accessories which were discovered included a gun holster, rifle scope and a firearm cleaning kit.

The investigation is ongoing
