You may be able to tell that I have what would be best described as spring break fever lately. Well, as a resident of the state of Florida, I’ve become a bit of a “beach snob” I must admit. A great beach experience, growing up in land-locked northern Iowa was much different than it is for me now.

One of my fondest beach memories is when my wife and I walked famous 7-mile beach together in Grand Cayman. Sure, we could have done an excursion on the island – the Caymans are known for their diving and snorkeling opportunities. We opted to walk our own path that day, so we venture out on our own.

Getting to 7-Mile Beach in Grand Cayman

Transportation options on Grand Cayman really are much better than most other Caribbean island destinations. Grand Cayman has a great, and very inexpensive local “bus” system. I say “bus” because they’re really just vans, not what we likely think of when it comes to a bus. But they get the job done just as easily.

We found the main bus station not more than a few blocks from the cruise ship port and took a bus out toward the beach. We took the bus to the north side of the beach.

For the most part, I think the beach is probably self-explanatory. It’s a very long stretch of public beach that runs from approximately the West Bay Dock on the northern most end to the Crescent Point Resort on the south. Walking the entire beach could be quite a challenge, but much of the middle portion of the beach, around the Governor’s Beach area is very nice and easy accessible.

Grand Cayman is such a romantic place with a lot of opportunities for beach-related activities. I’ve always wanted to walk 7-Mile Beach with the one I loved and I highly recommend you give it a try, too. Just remember to leave enough time to get back to your cruise ship if your ship leaves that evening. I can think of worse places to get stranded, but being left behind is never a good idea.
