Damian Marley Set to Perform Alongside Local Artists

20100309-173849-214561Damian Marley set to perform alongside local artists on The Festival Green, Grand Cayman’s premier music venue

Camana Bay’s newest event location, the waterfront Festival Green, is fast becoming the premier address for many of Grand Cayman’s most popular events – including the 25th Annual Taste of Cayman Food & Wine Festival in January, the internationally-acclaimed BDO Women’s World Squash Open in December and The Festival Green’s inaugural event, John Legend: Live Lounge, in February last year.

Presented and produced by Youngblood Productions, tickets are now on sale and range from General Admission (CI$35 pre-sold or CI$50 on the gate) and Bleacher Seating (CI$50 pre-sold only) to VIP Admission (CI$80 pre-sold or CI$100 on the gate)

Marley is a three-time Grammy Award-winning Jamaican reggae artist, winning Best Reggae Album in 2002 for Halfway Tree, and Best Reggae Album and Best Urban/Alternative Performance in 2009 for Welcome to Jamrock, named after the hugely successful song of the same name.

Damian_Jr_Gong_Marley-Welcome_To_Jamrock-CDMarley is the only Jamaican reggae artist in history to win two Grammy Awards on the same night – and the only reggae artist to win in the Grammy’s Best Urban/Alternative Performance category.

Welcome to Jamrock sold an impressive 86,000 copies in its first week of release and was eventually certified gold after selling 500,000 copies in the US.

The youngest son of Bob Marley, Marley was only two years old when his father died age 36, however, his nickname, Jr. Gong, derived from his father’s own nickname Tuff Gong, lives strong.

Like his father, his music reflects both his Rastafarian beliefs and the Rastafari guiding principles of one love, one planet and freedom for all nations. Marley most recently performed at the 2013 Grammy Awards on Sunday 10 February. The artist performed a moving performance of Could You Be Loved in tribute to his late father with Bruno Mars, Sting, Rihanna and brother, Ziggy Marley.

“We are honoured to be the venue sponsor for this event and help make it possible for Youngblood Productions to bring an artist of this caliber to the Cayman Islands,” says Ken Hydes, Vice President Place Management & Experience at Camana Bay.

“We are pleased to be able to support a local production company – and what better way to celebrate an evening of live music than on the waterfront at Camana Bay.”

Venue gates open at 6pm on event day and the show starts at 9pm. Security will be on hand throughout the Town Centre, parking lots and inside the arena and members of the public are advised that vehicular access to The Festival Green is not permitted. Attendees are encouraged to use the two multi-storey parking garages and many surface lots located in the Town Centre. Ample parking will also be available at the Limestone lot north of the Town Centre (access via Century 21

roundabout) and at the Arts & Recreation Centre (ARC) lot to the south, next to Cayman International School. A free shuttle service will run from the Limestone and ARC lots to The Festival Green between 7pm-2am.

Guests arriving by boat from the North Sound can dock for free at one of The Harbour’s 30 boat slips available for public use and come ashore via The Crescent to enjoy the show. Overnight docking should be arranged in advance by contacting [email protected]. The entrance to The Festival Green is located on the harbour front behind the 89 Nexus Way office building.

Tickets are available for purchase at Reflections, Liquor for Less, Food for Less, Funky Tangs, J&M Electronics and Infinity Fashion. For more information about ticket options and group rates, contact Michael at 345.517.7797 or 345.929.3630.
