Sickle Cell Group Meets

The next meeting of the Sickle Cell Support Group is set for Tuesday, 14 April 2015, 7.30 p.m. at the Health Services Authority’s Public Health Waiting Room. Third stolen vehicle recovered

The 2004 Nissan Sunny motor car reported stolen last week in Mount Pleasant, West Bay has been recovered.

This was the third vehicle stolen last week and circulated to the public. On Tuesday 7 April 2015 the complainant discovered the vehicle parked in the parking lot of the Mount Pleasant Apartment Complex.

The vehicle was washed, vacuumed and detailed with the tires shining from tire protectant, minus the ignition key.

RCIPS investigators were called and the car was forensically examined. The matter remains under investigation by  uniform officers from the West Bay Police Station.

NRA Widens Godfrey Nixon Way

 The National Roads Authority (NRA) began the preliminary stages of reconstructing Godfrey Nixon Way from the Butterfield Roundabout through to the Eastern Avenue intersection in early April 2015.

For road users’ convenience, the NRA and the Ministry of Planning, Lands, Agriculture, Housing and Infrastructure have made available a timeline of work still to be completed.

·         From Friday, 10-17 April Caribbean Utilities Company will relocate existing light poles and dampen existing power lines to allow for drainage installation

·         The week of 19 April new sidewalk and curbing will be installed.

·         Removal and relocation of water meters began on 1 April and is now complete.

Officials say work on the project should be finalised by 30 April. They ask drivers to traverse the area carefully between 10.00 a.m. and 2.00 pm when work is underway, although they note that some night work will also take place.

At the completion of the project the new Godfrey Nixon Way will have two travel lanes (east and west) and a central turning lane similar to that which currently exists on Elgin Avenue and Canal Point Road.

The authority will also reconstruct the existing sidewalk on the southern extremity (depicted in purple on the accompanying map) to allow for continuous pedestrian mobility, as well as access to businesses and developments.

On the road’s northern edge, works will include a bicycle lane from Ashgo Lane to the Butterfield Roundabout. This lane will also serve as an emergency lane where stranded vehicles can be moved to avoid impeding through-traffic.  

“We will endeavour to operate our construction and traffic control plans to minimize undue delays for drivers,” Managing Director Paul Parchment, “At the same time we sincerely ask for continued patience as we carry out these much needed improvements to the road network”.
