Date set for 2015 Cayman Islands triathlon presented by Elian
Athletes will be gearing up for one of the most gruelling athletic events in the sporting calendar — the Cayman Islands Triathlon — which is set to take place on Sunday, November 1st, 2015.
The annual event of the Cayman Islands Triathlon Association is the highlight of the triathlon season and starts at Public Beach. Participants have the choice of two courses: the Sprint Distance, which requires athletes to race a 750m swim, a 12.4 mile bike ride and a 3.1 mile run, while the Olympic Distance is an extremely testing 1500m swim, 24.8 mile bike ride and 6.2 mile run. Athletes also have the choice of competing as individuals or in a two or three person relay.
Race Director, Paul Schreiner, said the race was an important community event.
“In 2014 the Cayman Islands Triathlon had over 170 athletes participate in the race, which demonstrates the increasing popularity of triathlons here in Cayman and around the world,” Mr Schreiner said. “Now in our 19th year, we are focusing on continuing to grow the sport of triathlon in the Cayman Islands, thanks to the support of volunteers, participants and sponsors.”
Corporate and fund services specialists, Elian, has pledged its support of the event as title sponsor. Colin MacKay, Group Director of Elian, said his organisation was thrilled to announce its partnership for a second year.
“The Cayman Islands Triathlon has become increasingly popular each year it has been held and has become extremely well supported, as everyone enjoys coming out on race day to cheer on athletes, volunteer at water stops and so on,” Mr MacKay said. “We believe the Cayman Islands Triathlon is an excellent example of a sport which brings the community together, and are pleased to be partnering with such a powerfully positive event. It’s a shining example of how the Cayman Islands is best in class at producing top rate sporting events.”
Mr Schreiner said the Cayman Islands Triathlon Association is keen to assist local athletes to perform their best on race day, so a series of training events have been scheduled.
“We’ve set the dates this year for August 30th, September 20th and October 11th, so participants will have had training sessions to help them prepare for what is, after all, one of the most demanding tests for any athlete, physically and mentally,” he said.
The 2015 Cayman Islands Triathlon presented by Elian is also supported by Tower, Cayman National and Red Sail Sports.
