Persons who have an appeal pending with the Immigration Appeals Tribunal (IAT) have until Monday 30 December 2013 to submit detailed grounds of appeal.

On 25 October 2013 the Immigration Law changed to state that hearings shall be on the basis of written grounds and submissions only.  As a result appellants will no longer appear in person before the Tribunal.

IAT Coordinator Natasha Bodden explains that in order to facilitate this change in procedure, persons who had submitted appeals prior to the change in legislation will be afforded an opportunity to ensure that their appeal statement is sufficiently detailed for the IAT to deal with the appeal.

The IAT has the right to quash or dismiss the appeal on the basis of the appellant failing to submit the documents requested.
