Delivering Hope: Postal Service and Sunrise Adult Training Centre Forge Inspiring Partnership
Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands: 12 July 2024 – A remarkable partnership unfolded recently between the Cayman Islands Postal Service (CIPS) and the Sunrise Adult Training Centre (SATC) during the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and Caribbean Postal Union (CPU) conferences held at the Marriott Grand Cayman.

It all began with a conversation about utilizing SATC’s coaster buses for transporting conference delegates. However, Kimberly Voaden, the Director of SATC, suggested an even more inclusive approach: involving Sunrise clients in assembling the delegates’ gift bags. Although the bags were already assembled, this suggestion sparked the idea of SATC clients assisting with secretariat duties.

SATC clients were integral to the smooth operation of the secretariat duties throughout the conference and their dedication and efficiency did not go unnoticed. When the delegates learned about the SATC clients’ involvement, they responded with appreciation and encouragement throughout the conference.

The SATC clients assisted with various tasks, including managing registration desks, distributing conference materials, providing directions, and ensuring that the delegates’ needs were met promptly. Their enthusiasm and commitment brought – energy to the conference, creating a warm atmosphere that resonated with all attendees.

This joint effort is not just a first for the CPU conference but also a pioneering effort for SATC. The initiative has been hailed as a major success, demonstrating the power of collaborative working between government entities and fostering a spirit of innovation and inclusivity.

Quotes and Reflections on the Collaboration

“The success of this partnership has opened doors to future collaborations between CIPS and SATC. It serves as a perfect example of the Cayman Islands Government’s goals of improving the lives of those they serve and being innovative in their approaches.” – Sheena Glasgow, Postmaster General

Kimberly Voaden, SATC Director, emphasized the transformative impact of this initiative: “Our clients are skilled and talented, and are assets to their places of internship and employment.  SATC is incredibly grateful to CIPS for this partnership, which demonstrated our clients’ value and belonging at an international level, showcased their abilities, and challenged stereotypes.  All CIG Departments and local businesses can create inclusive opportunities, empowering individuals with disabilities to contribute meaningfully to society. SATC is here to help support these accomplishments, as we did with CIPS’ conference.”

The potential for future opportunities is growing. Discussions are already underway to involve SATC clients in other community events and government initiatives. This could include roles in organising public events, providing administrative support for various government departments, or contributing to ongoing public service campaigns.

The alliance between CIPS and SATC exemplifies how community-focused initiatives can break down barriers, creating opportunities for everyone to contribute and be recognised for their efforts. This is more than just a success story; it is a call to action for other organisations to embrace inclusivity and innovation in their operations. Interested in learning more?
