Deputy Governor says Disability Policy is “well needed”
Minutes Deputy Governor and Chief Officers’ Meeting 3rd March 2014

1. Welcome
The Deputy Governor welcomed everyone and prayer was offered.
2. Formal Approval of Minutes
The 3rd February 2014 meeting minutes were approved by attendees for circulation.
3. Matters Arising from the Minutes
There were no matters arising.
4. Presentation on the Draft Cayman Islands Disability Policy
The Cayman Islands Disability Policy Steering Committee gave a brief presentation on the draft Cayman Islands Disability Policy. The presentation included the following:
. Background on the development of the policy
. The policy development process
. Visions, goals, strategies and objectives
. Implementation planning
. Provision for policy monitoring, evaluation and change
. Concluding steps
The Deputy Governor thanked the committee for their hard work towards the development of this policy, and noted that such a policy is well needed and will have a positive impact on our community.
5. Update on Various Civil Service Reform Projects
The following projects are currently ongoing:
. e-Government
. Rationalization of the Civil Service
. Strategic Plan for the Civil Service
. Development of a Public Authorities Bill
COs will be updated as each project progresses.
6. Report on Meeting with Heads of Department
The meeting held on the 30 January was well attended and the Deputy Governor has received positive feedback from those in attendance. The Deputy Governor has committed to meeting with
HoDs twice a year.
7. Improving Communication
The Deputy Governor thanked Chief Officers for their efforts towards improving communication.
He also confirmed that he had received positive feedback from Civil Servants in various departments, in this regard.
8. AOB
. CO McField-Nixon will circulate guidelines on effective communication
. Two young sailors, Florence Allan and Pablo Bertran, will be representing the Cayman Islands at the 2014 Youth Olympics in China, this August
. Everyone is encouraged to join the GAB Walking/Running club this afternoon at 5:30pm
. 8 March is International Women’s Day
. COs are invited to attend UCCI’s conference entitled “Towards a Corruption-Free Caribbean: Ethics, Values, Trust and Morality,” from 19-21 March, 2014. The Deputy Governor will be one of the speakers.
