DES Announces Updates to 2023-2024 School Calendar
The Department of Education Services (DES) advises parents and guardians of updates to the 2023-24 school calendar to ensure students meet the required instructional days.
Changes to School Calendar:
- Extension of Final Term Days: Originally scheduled for half-days, 28 March and 28 June will now be full-day sessions for all public-school students.
- Instructional Day on 31 May: Previously designated as a Professional Development Day, Friday, 31 May, will now be a regular school day with students reporting for instruction.
“The Education Law mandates 185 instructional days per academic year,” DES Director Mark Ray explained. “The school closure on 6 February due to severe weather and the reinstatement of a public holiday on 6 May have created a two-day shortfall. These changes ensure our students receive the full course of instruction as required by law.”
Mr. Ray continued, “We understand these adjustments may cause inconvenience, and we sincerely apologise for any disruption this may cause to family schedules. The DES remains committed to providing quality education for all our students.”
