Did water get into Cayman’s gas supply?
The following is a statement received from the Cayman Islands Petroleum Inspectorate Department saying they have launched an investigation into reports that petroleum fuel is causing serious damage to cars.
The problem may have been water contamination in some of the batches of gas although this has not been confirmed.

“The Petroleum Inspectorate Department has received complaints from the public (motorists) regarding issues affecting their vehicles which is allegedly linked to fuel quality. The Department and Ministry is aware of the situation and is currently investigating, with full cooperation from the major Oil Companies so far.
“Due to the nature of the situation, customers are asked to continue to liaise with the Fuel Companies and/or their respective Retailers (Gas Station Operators) to address issues which may arise, presenting any substantial information they have to support the particular issue they (their vehicle) are experiencing.
“At this stage of our investigation, the Petroleum Inspectorate also welcomes information from the public on (technical) details of the problem being encountered to assist in comprehensively resolving this matter, in collaboration with the oil companies and other stakeholders.
“We will advise additional information as the investigation progresses.”
