Diver uses technology to find missing wedding ring in Cayman Islands

By Sam Helmy From Deep Blue
In what could very well be a TV show, a diver in the Cayman Islands used footage shot on the dive to locate a wedding ring that went missing.

According to Divernet, upon surfacing from a dive on the 77m/250ft wreck the USS Kittiwake in Grand Cayman, diver Jessica Pasquarelli discovered that her wedding ring had gone missing.

Desperate to retrieve the ring, she turned to Mark Rowe from Divetech who had filmed the entire dive with a GoPro.

In the hope of narrowing the search area, Rowe asked Pasquarelli to go over the footage from the dive and see if she could narrow down the moment that the ring was lost. After poring over the footage, she was able to determine the point and location where she lost her ring.

As Pasquarelli was exploring one of the wreck’s recompression chambers, the ring was still on her finger when she entered, but had disappeared by the time she exited the chamber.

The next day one of the Divetech instructors dove the Kittiwake and headed over to the recompression chamber to perform a search. He eventually found it hiding under the floor plates in the chamber.

A grateful Pasquarelli commented upon being reunited with her wedding ring:

“Words cannot explain how much I appreciate them and how they went above and beyond for a customer’s ring that was lost in the ocean. This is proof that there are still good people in the world who truly care.”

While normally it is virtually impossible to find items lost on a dive, this time through clever innovative use of technology this story had a happy ending.
