Don’t look in the mirror
By Paul McGowan From PS Audio
What do they say about aging? “Beats the alternative.”
The only reminder I get that I’m aging is when I catch my reflection in the mirror. From the inside, everything feels the same as it always has—functionally I’m still that 30-year old who starts his day at 5 am and calls it quits 12 hours later. But the mirror has its own opinions.
Life feels like it’ll go on forever despite rumors to the contrary.
One thing that’s clear to me is quality of life. However long I have left on this bus ride, I want it filled with good health, lots of challenges, adventures, and new mountains to climb.
The secret to staying up in the first class section? You’ve heard them time and again. Diet, exercise, and purpose.
One new twist I have recently become aware of through my many doc friends is bone density. As we age our skeletal structure weakens. We become brittle.
What to do.
Turns out Jack Lalanne was right. Lifting weights or any kind of serious resistance training has a major impact on bone strength. As we pound on our bones they wake up and rebuild themselves.
Who knew?
5 days a week, after work, Terri and I are at the local YMCA pounding iron. Hard to get used to it, but once it’s a routine it seems to be just like having breakfast.
Best $40 a month I know of.
