SARS-CoV-2 in fetuses Italian Study finds that SARS-CoV-2 virus can cross the placenta and infect the fetus. Researchers in Italy looked at 31 women who were infected with coronavirus who were well along in their pregnancy. They tested the women, their newborns, the placenta, umbilical cord, vaginal fluids and breast milk. They found two babies who were clearly infected while in the uterus. This should raise awareness of the risk to unborn babies posed by SARS-CoV-2 virus. CoViD-19 symptoms persist for over 2 months In another Italian study, researchers found more than 87% of patients who had recovered from CoViD-19 still had at least one symptoms after 2 months. The italian researchers looked at 143 patients trated in a hospital in Rome. They found at 2 months, 32% had 1-2 symptoms and 55% had three or more. Only 12.6% had no symptoms. The more we learn about this virus, the more we realize that it is a nasty virus with long term effects. CoViD-19 continues to surge in the south and south west CoViD-19 continues to surge in over 30 states with 6 states hitting single day case records. Death tolls, which are lagging indicators are starting to climb up as well. Be well and take care of yourself. There are storm clouds on the horizon. –Dr. Stu |
