President Trump
President Trump and his CoViD19 Illness The President is much more sick than they want us to believe. Watching him smile for the cameras after walking up the stairs from Marine-1 helicopter into the White House was very concerning. He was gasping for air, mouth open, chest heaving. He looked extremely pale despite his makeup. Shame on his physicians for allowing him to be discharged in that condition. They are not practising high quality compassionate medicine. Or perhaps its the well known VIP syndrome where famous people actually get worse care because they are famous and everyone just goes along with what the famous person wants. It’s a well known issue in Emergency Medicine. Either way, the President is sick and clearly not out of the woods yet. Let’s take a look at why I say this. First, from the limited information we get out of the presidential physician, his oxygen levels dropped to below 94% on more than one occasion. This is a low oxygen level and indicates probable pneumonia. The President was given a previously un-tried combination of medications which no one has any idea about the side effects when given like this. The Regeneron cocktail of antibodies is not approved yet and had to be given under something called “compassionate use”. This is usually called into play when someone is on their last legs and doctors are trying anything to save someone’s life. Second he is on Remdesivir which is a good thing but again, not something you give to someone with a mild illness. Third, he is sick enough to require steroids to reduce inflammation. They were clearly throwing everything they could at the President without really knowing what would happen. On top of this, the President is an old overweight male with heart disease. He is definitely in the high risk group. He should be watched carefully in a hospital. CoViD-19 has a nasty habit of making folks think they are getting better and then causing much worse illness a week later. I don’t care how good the White House medical unit is, our President should be watched carefully in the hospital. All the signs that I can see, as a physician, point to a sick person who is in trouble and needs to be cared for in the hospital, perhaps even the ICU. We only have one President, and even though I disagree with almost everything he has done, he deserves the best care we have to offer. He is not getting that care and it is hard to watch. Be well and take care of yourself. We will get through this together. –Dr. Stu |
