CoViD-19 Cases Continue to Rise (this is a political rant!)

This is where we are 9 months after the pandemic hit the US with a failed abysmal pandemic response by this administration:

New cases are rising almost straight up. We had 81,000 new cases yesterday. Experts are predicting more than 100,000 new cases per day in the coming weeks. And the only strategy coming out of the White House is the Chief of Staff saying last weekend that the virus could not be controlled. Although the virus appears to have mutated to be more contagious but less lethal, with this many new cases each day, we are bound to have increasing hospitalizations and deaths.

Its 9 months into this and I still can’t get enough gloves for my staff, we still have to wear KN-95 masks from China because we can’t get enough N-95 certified US masks. Rapid testing cartridges are constantly running out. The FDA is being ordered to relax the usual standards so defective CoViD-19 tests are on the market. And to top it all off, at a rally yesterday in Florida, as the crowd was chanting “Fire Fauci”, President Trump said that perhaps he will fire Dr. Fauci after the election. Yes Mr. President, fire one of the smartest infectious disease specialists we have and listen to your radiologist doctor friend who knows nothing about epidemics and is promoting the ridiculous remedy of herd immunity.

Its been nine months and we are struggling under the idiotic leadership of a President who suggests that we should drink lysol or perhaps shine bright lights inside our body to kill the virus.Someone who traveled across the country creating super spreader events in his wake. In almost every place Mr. Trump held a rally, the case numbers drastically increased a few days later. Thousands of misinformed followers attended rallies without wearing face coverings and allowed the virus to spread person to person unchecked by even basic public health measures. Even while he was still infectious, our President chose to meet with people across this great country putting their lives at risk.

If the total catastrophic mishandling of the worst public health crisis in modern history is not enough to sway your vote, lets also recall our President forcibly removing children from their families at the southern border and placing them in concentration camp like conditions. Think back to the pictures of crying toddlers and young children looking for their parents. A few weeks ago, the government reported that over 500 kids are still not reunited with their parents because the Administration can’t find their parents.

Think back to the relaxation of the clean water and clean air rules which will result in our water being less clean and the air we breath being more toxic. Yes, let’s Make America Great Again by going back to the 1960’s and 70’s when we dumped huge quantities of cancer causing chemicals into our water and air.

From a public health perspective, the course we are on is the wrong course. We are not healthier, we are not living longer happier lives, we are not thriving under this leadership. Our country is more divided than ever and we’re being torn apart from the inside. We are on the wrong path being led by the wrong leader. Its time for a change, it’s time to correct our path after 4 years of misguided thinking.

Go out and vote tomorrow if you haven’t already done so. Send a strong message to our leaders on what we want as the American people. We must come together so we can survive the dark days of covid winter that are coming.

Stay safe and try to remember to protect yourself and your families, especially as the holidays approach.

Be well,
Dr. Stu Weiss
