Today’s topics: New Death Toll Record, Flu Vaccine
Highest Death Toll since May Yesterday, 1,499 American lost their lives. This is the highest death toll since May. As expected, with the record numbers of cases 4-5 weeks ago and record hospital admissions, we are now seeing record death tolls. Across the South, states continue to have record numbers of deaths. Flu Vaccine Yesterday, one of my readers sent me a question about seasonal Flu vaccine. They hadn’t heard much about it and asked me if I had. In an article in CIDRAP News and Perspective from the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, they reported today that pharmaceutical companies are increasing their output by 13%. The CDC Director, Dr. Robert Redfield, has said that flu vaccine will be critical this year. Hospitals around the country are often filled with very sick patients each year with seasonal flu. Adding those sick patients to the illness caused by SARS-CoV-2 would put a huge burden on hospitals. It has the potential for making this a very tough winter for us. Dr. Redfield said that this could be one of the worst falls in US history from a public health standpoint. People must consider strongly getting a flu vaccine this year. Keep yourself out of the hospital and let the healthcare workers focus on CoViD-19 cases instead of preventable flu cases. Be well and take care of yourself. There are storm clouds on the horizon. –Dr. Stu |
