Dresses, dreams and designs
Ms Brooks later decided to study fashion design in New York, and recently she started a business in Cayman mainly designing and making unique bridal gowns, as well as stunning outfits for bridesmaids.
“I’ve had about 8 bridal clients so far, one overseas client and the rest locals – the ones I’ve had so far have been mostly through word-of-mouth but I hope to expand my client base by advertising later on in the year,” she said. As anyone will tell you, starting a new business is a lot to
take on:
“I’m still working out all the kinks – right now I’m working out of my studio above my mom’s apartment! I’m hoping to either work with investors or save up enough money to open my own bridal boutique sometime in 2013, all my designs are completely original – created in my head and then sewn by me.”
“My main focus is bridal design but recently I’ve been collaborating with the boutique at the Ritz Carlton to create a line of cocktail dresses. So really anything in Special Occasion but Bridal is my first love and therefore my specialty,” she said.
“I am inspired by the concept of having the power to make someone feel magnificent. There is a quote by top designer, John Galliano that I love – it says ‘It is our (designers) job to make people dream.’ And that’s the thing about bridal – every piece should be a masterpiece because it’s practically the most important dress a girl will ever wear. “I’m inspired by so many things – by what inspires the bride – by magic and fairytales and wild imagination that conjures up this perfect, sparkling bride every little girl dreams about,” she added.
