Survivor stories Duped, trafficked, and forced to scam — a cyber slavery survivor’s story Thousands are falling victim to online scams, but the real story lies with those forced to commit the fraud. Jalil Muyeke, a Ugandan father-to-be, was lured to Thailand with the promise of a legitimate job, only to be kidnapped, trafficked, and trapped in a squalid compound. After months of being forced to run scams 17 hours a day under threat of torture, he managed to negotiate his escape. |

Rehabilitation & liberation Slaveholder descendants fund Guaranteed Income Program in reparations effort A new guaranteed income program in Louisiana, funded by descendants of a family whose wealth came from slavery, offers $1,000 monthly payments to marginalized participants as a form of reparations. This initiative highlights the enduring legacy of slavery that affects Black Americans today and connects directly to the ongoing fight against forced labor in U.S. prisons, where incarcerated individuals are still exploited under conditions akin to slavery.
