Easter Cantata

The Cayman Islands Male Voice Choir

Georgina Wilcox

The Cayman Islands Male Voice Choir put on another of their excellent Easter Cantatas on Good Friday March 30th at Elmslie United Memorial Church.

Although two of their regular members were missing due sadly to illness it did not stop the choir from performing with power and tuneful singing to a large audience that was also broadcast live on Radio Cayman.

There was also some guests that added to the entertainment namely, The William Pouchie Choir from North Side and the now annual performance from young Aidan Conolly. I say young, as he is, but each year he gets older and even better.

The Cantata was called “The Night Before Easter” and told the story of the passion, although familiar, still managed to bring tears to my eyes at Christ’s suffering for us.

There was also many familiar pieces like “Man of Sorrows”, Worthy Is The Lamb”, “Were You There”, “The Blood Will Never Lose It’s Power”, and “How Deep The Father’s Love.”

The congregation had to join in with the choir to sing for their supper on “When I Survey The Wondrous Cross” and the closing number “And Can It Be”.

During the interval piano accompanist, Antonio Sanchez, played a selection of music that showed off his great musical talent. Denver Bloomfield also accompanied the choir on organ.

We did earn our supper as after the concert had finished we all were invited to go into the church hall for refreshments.

Well done Male Voice Choir. You were all on top form.
