Elderly Plymouth woman victimized by phone scam [from Cayman Islands]
PLYMOUTH — Police issued warnings about telephone scams targeting the elderly this week after a 92-year-old woman lost nearly $2,000.
Capt. John Rogers said the woman received a telephone call from someone who said her son was in trouble and would need $1,900 to clear his name. The woman wired the money to the Cayman Islands before learning Tuesday her son was not in any trouble.
Rogers cautioned residents against falling victim to such scams and advised people to check with relatives personally if contacted about family emergencies or misfortunes.
