Emergency Services Standby Landing for Cayman Airways plane
Unusual Odour Prompts Emergency Services Standby Landing for CAL
On Thursday, April 13, 2017, Cayman Airways flight KX793 arriving at Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA) in Grand Cayman from New York, requested the airport emergency services to be on standby at 11:28am as a precautionary measure, due to an unusual odour emanating from the rear lavatory area. The aircraft, under the command of Captain William Anderson, landed safely and uneventfully a few minutes later at 11:35am.
After landing, the full aircraft of 122 passengers disembarked normally and the aircraft was removed from service in order to determine the cause of the odour and rectify. The smell was subsequently determined to be coming from a defective light, which was replaced.
