Energy Cayman launches free DIY Energy Audits
To kick off 2021, Energy Cayman, the Ministry of Commerce, Planning and Infrastructure’s energy efficiency public education campaign, has launched a series of free DIY energy audits aimed at helping people in the Cayman Islands save money whilst saving energy.
Three audits have been produced; one aimed at creating savings around the home, one for businesses, and a third for children who want to become energy superheroes by saving energy.
The DIY energy audits are easy to follow room by room assessments that help people understand their energy usage and reveal where improvements in energy efficiency can be made. They show how much energy individuals use each day and how to prevent wasting energy and money in the future, with simple to follow checklists, tips and tricks.
Minister of Commerce, Planning and Infrastructure, the Honorable. Joseph Hew, said, “We recently received over 800 entries for our Home Energy Efficiency Competition that we ran in conjunction with the Caribbean Utilities Company. This just highlights the fact that we have a huge number of people within our community that want to be energy efficient and save money while saving energy. For those that didn’t win the competition we wanted to ensure that we could provide tools that would also allow them to start making savings.”
Kristen Augustine, National Energy Policy Coordinator, said, “We have created distinct DIY audits for three key community groups as we all have a part to play in energy efficiency. The audits are completely free and are available to download from our website at www.energy.gov.ky/diyenergyaudits. We hope that this can help every member of our community to start making savings today.”
Energy Cayman, the Ministry of Commerce, Planning and Infrastructure’s 12-month public education campaign to embed energy efficient knowledge and good practice into the Cayman community. This has been launched to help meet the goals in the National Energy Policy, which includes 70% of electricity generation from renewable sources by 2037.
