England select Test and ODI squads for Caribbean tour
From ICC – Cricket
England have announced their Test and ODI squads to face the Windies for their tour of the Caribbean next year.
The Test squad that whitewashed Sri Lanka 3-0 – England’s first away series win in over two years – remains unchanged. While Joe Denly and Olly Stone both failed to make their Test debuts during the course of the series, they have been retained for the three Tests against the Windies.
Jason Roy misses out on selection in the Test side despite impressing for Surrey at the end of the County Championship season, as well as England Lions during their first-class match against Pakistan A last month.
For the five-match ODI series, Tom Curran and David Willey return, with Sam Curran, Liam Dawson and Stone missing out after they featured in the 3-1 series win over Sri Lanka. Denly also retains his place in the ODI side after receiving a call-up mid-series in Sri Lanka when Dawson suffered a side-strain bowling in the second ODI.
England eased to a 3-1 ODI series victory in Sri Lanka
The ODI series is England’s last before they announce their squad for the ICC 2019 Men’s Cricket World Cup, and they are likely to head in as favourites, as they currently sit on top of the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Team rankings.
The Test leg of the tour will begin in Barbados on 23 January, before the ODIs get underway on 20 February. A three-match T20I series is set to follow the ODIs, with the squad to be announced at a later date.
