Environmental agreement to Latin America and the Caribbean
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador highlighted the agreement just signed in Costa Rica for Latin America and the Caribbean in environmental matters.
In its digital page and Twitter account, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility, pointed out that the Covenant constitutes a fundamental milestone, he has reaffirmed the commitment to the rights of access to information, participation and justice in environmental matters.
According to need, in the event held in San José, from February 28 to March 4, Ecuador highlighted the process of dialog with the different sectors of society that strengthens the popular mandate and the construction of state policies with the aim of improving governance.
He also made reference to its Constitution, which recognizes nature as a subject of rights, which allows people can turn to the courts or courts to demand the protection of their rights, either within the judicial civil, criminal, administrative or judicial guarantees.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the text of the Agreement is open to the signing of the United Party, at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York, between 27 September 2018 and the 26 of September of 2020, after which must be approved by the signatories, according to their domestic laws, to be ratified in accordance with the provisions of international law.
In 2012, during the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio 20), Ecuador along with nine other countries of Latin America and the Caribbean urge the Declaration on the application of Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration on environment and development, added the portfolio in charge of diplomacy.
In that regard, he recalled that the signatory countries expressed their willingness to move toward a regional instrument to promote its full implementation, which materialized with the adoption of the regional agreement.
