By Colin Wilson
It is with some sadness to announce the death of former Tourism head, Eric Bergstrom.
Mr. Bergstrom came to Grand Cayman in 1963 with his wife, Suzy (now Mrs Suzy Soto) to run The Tortuga Club in East End. Three years later he became the first director of the Cayman Islands Tourist Board.
Mr. Bergstrom was made a Member of the British Empire in 1969 and received an award for Pioneer in Tourism in 2017 on Heroes Day.
He died peacefully at his home in Pompano Beach, Florida, last Saturday (13). He was one day shy of being 85 years old.
Mr. Bergstrom leaves his second wife Nancy and five children that include daughters Barrie Quappe and Sheree Ebanks.
We give our sincere sympathies to his family and friends. RIP.
