Ericsson joins AT&T Smart Cities Alliance:
Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) is joining AT&T and other technology leaders to build smart, sustainable cities using Internet of Things (IoT) innovations. The alliance will deploy information and communications technology (ICT) to improve citizens’ lives where they work and play.
The alliance will support AT&T’s new smart cities framework, which is aimed at helping cities better serve their citizens. The framework will be deployed in several U.S. cities with a focus on infrastructure, citizen engagement, transportation and public safety. The alliance members and local universities will work together to build smart city environments called “spotlight cities.”

Straight into the future of the Wi-Fi enabled connected car:
Ericsson and AT&T Drive recently launched an automotive Wi-Fi Landing Page solution that provides consumers with an easy way to manage Wi-Fi connectivity within their vehicles.
Chris Penrose, Senior Vice President Internet of Things, AT&T Mobility, says: “AT&T collaborated with Ericsson to provide vehicle owners with the ability to access and manage their 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot account. This marks another milestone in our strategic relationship with Ericsson as we continue to break new ground in enabling the next generation connected car experience for consumers.”
The Ericsson solution gives consumers the ability to activate a free Wi-Fi hot spot trial, buy a data session for their vehicle and manage their Wi-Fi account from within their vehicle.

Connected water smart sustainable city initiative in Atlanta, Georgia (United States):
Ericsson has announced field trials with AT&T for connected water solutions in Atlanta. The trials will enable the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, an organization dedicated to protecting water in the Chattahoochee River Basin, to remotely monitor the quality of the city’s water at key watershed locations. The connected water field trials will utilize a design prototype based on the winning idea from a recent Ericsson-sponsored Technology for Good innovation challenge with university students.
AT&T will provide all wireless connectivity for the Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
Established in 1994, Chattahoochee Riverkeeper is an environmental advocacy organization with more than 7,000 members dedicated solely to protecting and restoring the Chattahoochee River Basin — drinking water source for nearly four million people.

Ericsson delivers massive IoT with millions of connections per cell site for AT&T:
Ericsson has launched the ICT industry’s first complete cellular low-power wide-area (LPWA) offering, with backing from leading operator AT&T.
Ericsson Networks Software 17A for Massive IoT addresses a comprehensive range of Internet of Things (IoT) applications by supporting millions of IoT device connections per cell site. The new network software introduces narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) to existing LTE network infrastructure, enabling fast rollout of reliable, secure mobile connectivity with low total cost of ownership. Additionally, the network software introduces power-saving functionality for NB-IoT and LTE-M, allowing for more than 10-year device battery lifetime.
NB-IoT, LTE Machine-type Communication (LTE-M) and the previously launched Extended Coverage GSM (EC-GSM) are complementary and address the diversity of LPWA IoT use case requirements and deployment scenarios while making best use of existing networks.
